What you should know about high school

It seems like only yesterday that you had just finished applying to middle school and now you have to do that all over again. You might be even more stressed about applying to high school than you were about middle school because in New york, there are many, many choices for schools and so little time to check them all out. What i recommend is that you should start talking to your counselors at the beginning of 6th grade. It will help you a lot to know about the schools you want to go to before 8th grade. You should get to know as many schools as you can because the more back-up choices you have, the better. But for those of you that are in 8th grade and have not done this already, you should get to know as many schools as you can. I would recommend that you make an appointment with your counselors before you start applying to go over your choices or ask for good recommendations. I would also recommend that you take the specialized high school admissions test (S.H.S.A.T.) because if you do get into one of these schools, you will also find out which public high school you have gotten into before everyone else. So I highly recommend taking it even if you don't want to go to a specialized high school.
